Job summary

Springwell Special Academy in Barnsley seeks a dedicated Teaching Assistant (Grade 2) to support teachers and nurture pupils with SEMH needs. You will assist in delivering tailored activities, monitor progress, and maintain a safe, inclusive classroom.

Starting salary £19,825 (FTE £25,614) for 33 hours/week, Mon–Fri term-time + 5 inset days. Part-time options may apply with a minimum of 2 days/week. Training and a supportive Wellspring Trust environment are offered.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English or a good level of numeracy and literacy skills.
• Experience or interest in working with children/young people with SEN/SEMH needs.
• A genuine passion for educating and nurturing pupils with SEMH needs.
• Ability to relate to children and younger people to build positive relationships.

Responsibilities

• Assist the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans and educational activities tailored to the needs of each child.
• Provide individual support to students, especially those with special educational needs, ensuring they are engaged and included in all activities.
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages learning and communication.
• Communicate effectively with pupils to promote understanding and learning, using appropriate methods
• Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment, ensuring all materials are organised and accessible.
• Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to monitor student progress and share insights on individual needs.
