Job summary

Abbots Care in Hitchin is seeking compassionate care workers to join a dedicated team providing 24/7 home-based support to a client with a life-changing spinal cord injury. The role focuses on maintaining independence and community involvement within the client’s home environment.

You will deliver personal care, mobility support, meals, and social activities, with full training provided by the company. Shifts are 7am–7pm and 7pm–7am (waking night), with one weekend every other week.

Qualifications

• Spinal cord injury care
• Complex care
• Bowel management
• Catheter care
• Moving and handling
• Autonomic dysreflexia awareness and management

Responsibilities

• Personal care and daily living support
• Bowel management every morning
• Catheter care and bladder washouts
• Support with eating and drinking
• Safe moving and handling using a mobile hoist (two-person transfers)
• Community access, appointments, and social activities
• Accompanying client to prayer visits and outings
• Promoting independence, dignity and wellbeing
• Cook/Meal preparation in line with client’s vegetarian lifestyle
