Job summary

Academics in Hebden Bridge is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 pupil with Down syndrome. The role focuses on individualized learning support and helping the pupil access the curriculum and school environment.

The ideal candidate will have SEN experience, a patient and nurturing approach, and strong communication skills to work with teaching staff and the pupil to build independence and confidence.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with SEN/additional needs.
• Experience supporting a child with Down syndrome desirable.
• Patience, caring and nurturing approach.
• Ability to build a strong, positive relationship with the pupil.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualised support with learning and classroom activities.
• Help the pupil access the curriculum at an appropriate level.
• Support the pupil's communication, confidence and independence.
• Encourage positive engagement in learning and classroom routines.
• Provide support with movement around the school where required.
• Help the pupil navigate different areas of the school safely.
• Build a positive, trusting and supportive relationship with the pupil.
• Work as part of a wider team to support his individual needs and development.
