Job summary

Independent Lives is seeking an experienced Personal Assistant to support a young woman with autism and complex needs in Eastbourne. The role involves helping with daily living, activities, transport, and community engagement, with an emphasis on promoting independence and safety.

The position requires a full driving licence, access to a car, and flexibility to work across mornings, afternoons, and occasional evenings or weekends as needed. DBS check may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting individuals with autism or complex needs.
• Ability to assess risks and personal triggers to keep the person safe.
• Strong written and spoken communication; trustworthy and discreet.
• Willingness to learn Positive Behaviour Support and related approaches.
• Patience and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Support the young woman to remain safe, well and emotionally stable.
• Contribute to her programme of activities and life skills development.
• Assist at home and in the community, including gym and swimming.
• Prepare meals and assist with transport and appointments.
• Attend planning meetings and maintain records of activities and goals.
