Job summary

Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford is seeking a compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join our Outpatient and Ward Team. The role supports Registered Nurses, delivers patient-centred care, and helps with activities of daily living, basic observations, and promoting dignity throughout care.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, report to the Ward Manager, and collaborate across departments to ensure a high-quality patient experience in a private hospital setting.

Qualifications

• GCSEs or equivalent
• Care Certificate
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health or Social Care, or equivalent experience
• Experience in hospital environment preferred
• Competence in phlebotomy and undertaking ECGs
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Basic computer skills and confidence maintaining electronic records
• Caring, patient-focused and professional approach
• Ability to work independently and in a wider clinical team
• Flexibility to meet department needs

Responsibilities

• Support Registered Nurses in delivering plans of care
• Provide compassionate, individualised care while maintaining dignity
• Assist patients with activities of daily living
• Take and record basic observations (BP, temperature, height, weight)
• Escalate concerns per hospital policy
• Provide emotional support to patients and relatives
• Perform phlebotomy and ECGs where competent
• Maintain accurate patient records and IT systems
• Support infection prevention and control standards
• Assist with stock and equipment maintenance
• Act as chaperone when required
• Respond to patient feedback, complaints and incidents
• Collaborate with colleagues across departments for patient experience
