Job summary

Southend University Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a Band 3 Maternity Care Assistant to support women, birthing people, babies and families in maternity care. You will work under registered midwives to provide safe, compassionate care across antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal services.

You will assist with personal care, observations and clinical tasks while maintaining infection control standards and contributing to a calm, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Provide hands-on personal care, including assistance with hygiene, mobility and comfort needs.
• Engage in training and continuous professional development to maintain knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision of registered midwives to support safe, high-quality care for women, birthing people, babies and families.
• Provide hands-on personal care including assistance with hygiene, mobility and comfort.
• Assist with routine observations such as temperature, pulse and respiration, reporting concerns to a midwife or senior staff.
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas, ensuring cleanliness, safety and infection control.
• Offer emotional support to women and families to create a calm, inclusive environment.
• Contribute to effective teamwork through clear communication, handovers and supporting patient flow.
• Adhere to Trust policies on safeguarding, confidentiality, manual handling and infection control.
• Engage in training and CPD to maintain and enhance maternity knowledge and skills.
• Support quality improvement initiatives, audits and service development as required.
• Work on a 24/7 rota across days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
