Job summary

NHS Jobs is seeking a Health Care Assistant (HCA) for maternity cover. You will provide direct nursing care, work with the multidisciplinary team, and support families while ensuring patient safety and accurate records.

You will participate in clinical observations, mentor trainees, and help plan workload with registered nurses, while adhering to hospital policies and data protection rules.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients, working independently when appropriate or with registered nurses when needed.
• Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to maintain a holistic approach to patient care and report concerns to team members.
• Observe and report on patients' general condition, and ensure information is communicated and recorded in patient records to meet legal and professional requirements.
• Maintain a high standard of nursing care and assist in creating a safe working environment by following policies and ensuring equipment is in good order.
• Assist and support volunteers, provide mentorship to new staff members, and help plan workload with registered nurses.
• Undertake clinical observations as required and be competent to identify results that fall outside normal limits; participate in audits and governance as needed.
