Job summary

Larksfield and Arlesey Medical Partnership, a well-established GP practice in Hitchin, seeks an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join the primary care team. You will provide high-quality patient care in a supportive environment.

Key duties include venepuncture, ECGs, NHS Health Checks, wound care, and accurate data entry. You will support clinicians, maintain rooms and supplies, and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, prioritising patient safety and data protection.

Qualifications

• Proven experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within a GP practice, primary care, or clinical setting.
• Competency in venepuncture, ECGs, NHS Health Checks, wound care and basic clinical observations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a caring and empathetic approach.
• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload efficiently.
• Awareness of health and safety, infection prevention and control, safeguarding and data protection standards.

Responsibilities

• Undertake venepuncture, ECGs, NHS Health Checks, wound care and record patient observations.
• Support clinicians during consultations, procedures and examinations as required.
• Accurately label, process and store blood samples in line with procedures.
• Prepare and maintain clinical rooms, equipment and medical supplies for safe patient care.
• Provide reassurance, support and compassionate care to patients of all ages.
• Maintain accurate patient records and data entry in the clinical system.
• Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses and admin staff to ensure smooth workflow.
• Follow safeguarding, confidentiality, infection prevention and health and safety procedures.
