Dignity Funeral Directors at Abingdon Care Centre in Oxfordshire is seeking a Funeral Service Operative (Level One) to provide dignified care for the deceased and support families during difficult times. The role includes driving specialist vehicles, on-call availability, and ensuring high standards of presentation across vehicles and facilities.

No prior funeral experience is required; full training, uniform and ongoing development are provided, with a competitive benefits package and pension

Qualifications

• Holds a Full UK Driving Licence (Essential).
• Empathy, professionalism and composure under pressure.
• Respectful, caring approach when supporting colleagues and families.
• Physically capable of manual handling tasks, including lifting.
• Comfortable working in direct contact with the deceased.
• Reliable, flexible and able to work outside standard hours when needed.
• Presents themselves in a professional and dignified manner.
• PC literate with Microsoft Office, Outlook and internal databases (training provided).

Responsibilities

• Provide dignified and professional care for the deceased.
• Support Funeral Directors in delivering seamless service and ceremonial work.
• Drive and operate specialist vehicles (hearses, limousines, ambulances).
• Maintain high standards of presentation for vehicles and facilities.
• Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota (nights/weekends).
• Bring the deceased into our care from the place of death.
• Prepare the deceased (washing, dressing) per family wishes.
• Support chapel visits and interactions with families.
• Carry out all duties involving the deceased with care and professionalism.
