Job summary

Elmbridge Borough Council's Community Transport team is seeking a caring Passenger Assistant to support children, young people and adults with additional needs to travel safely to education settings and community activities.

The role involves helping passengers board and alight, ensuring equipment and seatbelts are secured, and providing reassurance during journeys. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Support passengers with additional needs and disabilities to travel safely.
• Help passengers board and alight, secure belts and equipment.
• Be prepared to undertake Passenger Assistant and First Aid training.
• Based at River Mole Business Park, Esher, with shifts 7.00am–6.00pm, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

• Assist with mobility needs, including wheelchairs and specialist equipment.
• Work alongside Community Transport Drivers to support journeys.
• Provide reassurance and support throughout each journey.

Community Transport Passenger Assistant (0.6 FTE)

Salary: Scale 2-3, £16,800. - £18,341.86 per annum for 21.6 hours per week

Elmbridge Borough Council's Community Transport team is looking for a caring and reliable Passenger Assistant to support children, young people and adults with additional needs and disabilities to travel safely to education settings, Hub Centres and community activities.

This is a rewarding role where no two days are the same. Working alongside our Community Transport Drivers, you will help passengers board and leave vehicles safely, ensure specialist equipment and seatbelts are secured, and provide reassurance and support throughout each journey.

About the Role

• 6 hours per week
• Approximately 4 hours per day
• Between Monday to Friday
• Split shifts covering morning and afternoon transport runs
• Working days agreed according to service requirements
• Based at River Mole Business Park, Esher

We're looking for someone who:

• Enjoys supporting people in the community
• Is patient, caring and dependable
• Can work confidently alongside drivers and transport colleagues
• Has good communication and organisational skills.
• Can remain calm in a variety of situations
• Is willing to undertake Passenger Assistant and First Aid training
• Are comfortable assisting passengers with mobility needs, including wheelchairs and specialist equipment
• Are flexible and able to work split shifts between the hours of 7.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, where required.
• You will be based at our transport depot at River Mole Business Park, Mill Road, Esher.
