Job summary

Moray Council is seeking an experienced care and support worker to assist adults with disabilities or frailties, including those with challenging behaviours. The role requires promoting independence, budgeting support, and social skills development, across Moray Council locations.

A full driving licence is expected for travel between sites. Mandatory PVG disclosure is required under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Act.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to undertake SVQ qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain individuals' records and support plans; act as a key worker when required.
  • Promote independence and develop skills for individuals.
  • Assist with budgeting, finances, benefits and daily tasks.
  • Work with others to ensure quality care and health/safety compliance.
  • Travel between Moray locations using a car/van when needed.
  • Record information accurately and maintain confidentiality.

Job Description

To work with and provide care and support to individuals with a range of disabilities or frailties who may exhibit a variety of challenging behaviours posing a range of physical and emotional challenges, or require urgent care.

Requirements

To promote the independence and develop skills for individuals.

Provide assistance and guidance/training to individuals in all household tasks.

Assist individuals to manage all areas of finance, bank account, benefits, budgeting.

Enable individuals to develop social skills and integrate as fully as possible into their Community.

To work in different locations and services within Moray Council.

To uphold social work values, to ensure good working practice including understanding and awareness of health and safety.

To work positively with other agencies, parents, carers, and other services to ensure a quality provision of care for service users.

Develop and contribute to the maintenance of individual's records and support plans and act as a key worker when required.

General Duties.

To participate in regular and ongoing training and team meetings relevant to the needs of the individuals.

Be aware and follow the Health and Safety guidelines at all times.

The Individual

Experience which would give insight into working with adults with a learning disability, Mental Health or Challenging Behaviour.

Ability to demonstrate a satisfactory level of literacy and numeracy. Mandatory SSSC registration for new and existing staff.

Willingness to undertake SVQ qualification.

Budgeting skills.

Ability to undertake household skills to a required standard.

Ability to record information accurately.

Self confident and self motivated.

Active listening and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with individual and staff at all levels.

Ability to resolve problems and cope with day to day pressures.

Flexible and adaptable.

Ability to work independently and/or as part of an effective team.

Confident approach to challenging situations.

Ability to encourage and enable individual.

A positive and supportive attitude to individuals.

Effective organisational skills including time management.

Full Driving licence, you will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van.

Must be physically able to undertake a range of movements when carrying out personal care and domestic tasks.

Must be able to handle equipment/people in accordance with moving and handling regulations.

This post is considered to be a 'Regulated Role' under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act is is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role within children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme. Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.

Starting Salary: £27,671.80 (pro rata)

£14.68 per hour

Contract available: Various contracts per week available (15 to 25 hours per week contracts)
