The Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is seeking a School Staff Nurse to join the School Nursing Service in the Wrexham area. You will deliver immunisations, health assessments and health promotion in schools and communities, under Band 6 supervision and in line with safeguarding procedures.

The post requires a First level nurse and suitable paediatric experience, with Welsh or English language skills.

Qualifications

  • First level nurse registration with appropriate safeguarding training.
  • Paediatric-related experience is desirable and beneficial.
  • Willingness to work in school settings and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake immunisations and health interviews within the Healthy Child Wales Programme.
  • Provide health promotion and welfare guidance to families.
  • Support school health surveillance and health needs assessments.
  • Work with Band 6 and follow safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Participate in safeguarding and child protection activities with local frameworks.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities

CLINICAL

  • To undertake as delegated by School Nurse Band 6 school health surveillance, screening tests/health interviews in accordance with the Healthy Child Wales Programme.
  • Participate in the prevention and control of outbreaks of infectious disease. Participate in administration of immunisation, following policies and procedures.
  • Provide support and advice to families regarding the health and welfare of their child.
  • Undertake home visits delegated by School Nurse Band 6 as required taking account of the Health Board Lone Worker Policy.
  • Undertake health promotion activities in a variety of settings as delegated by School Nurse Band 6.
  • To be knowledgeable of the effects of the (chronic condition) on the child and carers.
  • Assisting/supporting School Nurse Band 6 in identifying health needs of identified target area.

EDUCATION

  • To attend in-service training course and study sessions as required following identification of learning needs and Individual Performance.
Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse to become part of the School Nursing Service in Wrexham area, as a member of the school nurse team which has responsibility for the health needs of the children and young people in a designated area

The School Staff Nurse will have delegated responsibility for allocated schools/workload.

It will involve undertaking immunisation programmes, health assessments, health promotion both within the community and schools. It will also involve acting in accordance with local Safeguarding procedures and the All Wales Child Protection procedures.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
