Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in North Wales is seeking a School Staff Nurse to join the School Nursing Service in the Wrexham area. The post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months due to service needs. You will help with immunisations, health assessments and health promotion in schools and communities.

Applicants must obtain permission from their current line manager before applying. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh or English applications are welcome.

Qualifications

  • First Level nurse is an essential criteria.
  • Desirable criteria include RN Children qualification.
  • Ongoing professional development is required.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out school health surveillance, screening tests and health interviews as part of Healthy Child Wales Programme.
  • Participate in outbreaks control and immunisation administration per policy.
  • Provide support and advice to families on their child health and welfare.
  • Undertake home visits as delegated, following Lone Worker policy.
  • Engage in health promotion in community and school settings.
  • Understand effects of chronic conditions on child and carers.
  • Assist in identifying health needs of target areas.
  • Attend in-service training to identify learning needs.

Specific Duties And Responsibilities
CLINICAL
  • To undertake as delegated by School Nurse Band 6 school health surveillance, screening tests/health interviews in accordance with the Healthy Child Wales Programme.
  • Participate in the prevention and control of outbreaks of infectious disease. Participate in administration of immunisation, following policies and procedures.
  • Provide support and advice to families regarding the health and welfare of their child.
  • Undertake home visits delegated by School Nurse Band 6 as required taking account of the Health Board Lone Worker Policy.
  • Undertake health promotion activities in a variety of settings as delegated by School Nurse Band 6.
  • To be knowledgeable of the effects of the (chronic condition) on the child and carers.
  • Assisting/supporting School Nurse Band 6 in identifying health needs of identified target area.
EDUCATION
  • To attend in-service training course and study sessions as required following identification of learning needs and Individual Performance.
Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse to become part of the School Nursing Service in Wrexham area, as a member of the school nurse team which has responsibility for the health needs of the children and young people in a designated area. The School Staff Nurse will have delegated responsibility for allocated schools/workload. It will involve undertaking immunisation programmes, health assessments, health promotion both within the community and schools. It will also involve acting in accordance with local Safeguarding procedures and the All Wales Child Protection procedures. This post is fixed term / secondment for 12 months due to the needs of the service. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
