The post holder will provide essential skills for maintenance work at premises within the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, Lancaster, and Morecambe areas, including organizations with contractual arrangements with Atlas.

Main duties of the job

This role involves working effectively and responsively to user needs with minimal supervision, supporting multi-skilled maintenance crafts persons and contractors in repairing, installing, and servicing hospital plant, equipment, site facilities, and building fabric.

The post holder will undergo progressive training to increase competence and perform higher-level craft and multi-craft work, including non-routine and routine tasks.

Job description

Responsibilities

The post holder will:

• Support higher skilled staff in the Estates Department for new work and repairs.
• Undertake routine maintenance and minor repairs independently, based on training and experience.
• Assist with testing fire alarms, hot water temperature checks, changing lamps, drain checks/clearing, small joinery, and building tasks without supervision.
• Record and interpret meter readings monthly, identifying abnormalities that could increase client costs.
• Drive company vehicles for maintenance, repairs, or material collection, maintaining vehicle and equipment.
• Perform general cleaning duties in workshops, plant rooms, ducts, culverts, and vehicles.
• Safely erect, use, and dismantle tower scaffolding, ladders, and steps.
• Occasionally work overtime at short notice.
• Carry out PAT testing on Trust-owned equipment in private dwellings (training provided).
• Support higher-level maintenance craftspeople in repairs.
• Perform any additional tasks as required by the Estates Manager.

12. Be responsible for health and safety, access, and security when working in sensitive areas such as wards, health premises, and mental health facilities.

• Handle new situations appropriately and inform the Estates Manager.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures.
• Assist colleagues and respond to requests for help.
• Work safely in hazardous, confined, or contaminated environments, completing risk assessments as needed.
• Work in areas with emotional or distressing circumstances occasionally.
• Familiarize with local safety rules, risk assessments, fire safety, evacuation procedures, and COSHH.
• Secure all plant, equipment, and buildings under the department's jurisdiction.
• Report equipment failures and request supplies or services in writing, referencing manuals.
• Adhere to policies on fire safety, infection control, health and safety, COSHH, manual handling, and safe working practices.
• Use tools and equipment safely and competently.
• Immediately report hazards or problems to the Estates Officer and assist in incident investigations.
• Respond to emergencies and major incident plans as required.
• Undertake annual appraisals and identify development needs.
• Work hours as necessary for service continuity.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
