Job summary

Wiltshire Council is recruiting a Community Library Assistant to join Wilton and Salisbury Libraries. You will deliver friendly service, assist volunteers and help run daily library operations.

The role combines counter duties with admin tasks and supports the Library Manager in delivering a community-focused service across two locations.

Qualifications

  • You should have at least 5 GCSEs including English and Maths at grades A–C (or equivalent).
  • Customer service experience is essential; training in library operations is provided.

  • Support the Library Manager and volunteers to deliver a community-focused library service.

Salary and Hours

£26,016 - £26,847 pro rata

12 hours per week

If so, we invite you to consider a rewarding opportunity to join our team at Wilton and Salisbury Libraries. As a Community Library Assistant, your friendly and positive approach will play a key role in providing an excellent experience for our customers and volunteers.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include working independently to carry out computerised counter routines and completing administrative tasks that support the daily running of the library. A vital part of the role is assisting the Library Manager by working alongside and supporting our dedicated team of volunteers to deliver a community-focused library service in Wilton Library.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have at least 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths at grades A–C (or equivalent).

While customer service experience is essential, previous library experience is not required, as we provide comprehensive training in all aspects of library operations.

Schedule and Location

Work pattern and location for this role is:

Week 1: Tues 4-7 at Wilton, Wednesday 10-2 at Salisbury, Thursday 9:30-1:30 at Wilton

Week 2: Tuesday 4-7 at Wilton, Thursday 9:30-1:30 at Wilton, Friday 1:30-5 at Wilton, Saturday 9:30-1 at Wilton

This post is based at Wilton Library; however, as part of your regular working pattern, you will also be required to work at Salisbury Library.
