Job description

Harborough District Council’s vision is to work with communities in a vibrant, safe and prosperous district and to bring the best opportunities to all.

This role is an exciting opportunity to work directly with communities, parishes, and partner organisations to help address issues of deprivation, poverty, vulnerability, health and wellbeing across the district. You will play a key role in mapping activity, building strong relationships, and supporting the development of community-led projects that make a real difference to residents’ lives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working with local communities to understand and respond to needs related to deprivation, poverty, vulnerability, and health and wellbeing.

  • Building trusted relationships with community groups, town and parish councils, and other partners to identify and promote good practice, link up initiatives, and support the development of new partnerships and projects.

  • Supporting groups with advice, organisational and project development and funding advice.

  • Working closely with the community engagement team and other council teams using data and local intelligence to inform priorities, raise awareness of key issues and helping to coordinate a cohesive offer of support across services and organisations.

About you:

  • You will bring a strong commitment to community engagement and development, along with experience of working in partnership across sectors. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to deliver a range of projects and priorities. Experience of working with vulnerable groups and on issues such as health inequalities or poverty is essential.

  • You will need to be able to work independently and collaboratively, have a good understanding of local government and/or the voluntary sector, and be committed to improving outcomes for residents, particularly those who are most in need of support.

  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is required, as well as the flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends. The post is subject to a DBS check.
