We also lead the development of funding proposals, particularly to government funders, directly raising funds in support of CAMFED’s mission.

Why join us?

This is a truly exciting time to join CAMFED’s team as we head into the next phase of our strategic plan. Alongside our alumnae network of over 250,000 young women, who are now at the helm of our movement, CAMFED is on track to profoundly impact the lives of generations of girls and young women across sub-Saharan Africa over the next decade.

As an Officer within the Development Operations team, you will actively contribute towards the implementation of CAMFED’s ambitious strategy, working alongside colleagues globally to ensure we are able to effectively meet our commitments to our donors and bring in new funding. We are a welcoming, supportive and collaborative group, hardworking and passionate about CAMFED’s mission, and deeply committed to learning and growing professionally, and to ensuring the wellbeing of ourselves and our colleagues as we take on this work together.

What’s the role?

This role is central to CAMFED’s ability to effectively steward relationships with our funding partners and bring in new funding in support of CAMFED’s mission. You will help ensure compliance with donor contracts by reviewing and reporting on funded activity, as well as maintaining and disseminating information about CAMFED’s programme to support wider knowledge share in the organisation.

The role will be varied, collaborative, and deadline-driven, and enable a detailed understanding of CAMFED’s programmes. It will suit someone resourceful, curious, adaptable and organised, who enjoys writing and synthesising information, as well as close analytical work and collaborative problem-solving.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the regular review of managed grants, working in partnership with CAMFED’s Africa offices to ensure contract compliance and optimal use of restricted funds, to support work planning and to check that progress and budget management is on track.
  • Lead the preparation of donor reports, progress updates, and other relevant communications to support CAMFED’s relationship with funding partners. This could include coordinating input from colleagues internationally/across functions, and drafting report documentation as appropriate, particularly narrative reports, as well as responses to donor queries.
  • Support the preparation of proposals to funding partners, including through researching and fact-checking information, coordinating input from colleagues internationally/across functions, and drafting proposal sections or other documentation as appropriate.
  • Maintain programme, operational and grant records and reference materials to facilitate knowledge management, business continuity and compliance.
  • Act as a ‘country lead’ focal point within the team and the wider organisation, sharing clear and relevant information about that country and CAMFED’s programme within it.
  • The role may entail international travel, including to CAMFED’s partner countries in Africa.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Qualities for the Role

  • Strong project management skills, and the ability to engage others around a common goal.
  • Ability to progress multiple workstreams, prioritise effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience of working in a collaborative team environment - experience of working in an international team and across different time zones and cultures would be beneficial, particularly with CAMFED’s countries of operation.
