The Opportunity Hub UK Ltd is seeking a mid-level Communications Director to shape the future of PR and Communications in Birmingham. You will lead external and internal communications, build strong media relationships, and manage crisis situations while guiding a small team.
With salary ranging from £45,500 to £68,500, the role includes a bonus scheme, private medical insurance, pension contributions, and a hybrid work model between the Birmingham office and home.
An exceptional opportunity for a mid-level Communications Director to shape the future of PR & Communications in Birmingham.
PR & Communications has shifted hard in the last few years. Reputation now lives online, in the press and across social channels all at once, and a single misstep spreads fast. This growing SME, established in its sector but still scaling, needs a Communications Director who can hold that whole picture together. It's a business with defined roles, room to grow into them, and enough structure to keep things sane.
Lead the organisation's external and internal communications strategy, end to end
Build and manage relationships with journalists, trade press and key industry stakeholders across the Birmingham region and beyond
Oversee crisis communications and reputation management when things go wrong, and before they do
Write and approve press releases, executive messaging and thought leadership content
Manage a small team of PR and communications specialists, setting direction and reviewing output
Report on communications performance to senior leadership, with recommendations that actually get acted on
Several years' experience in a senior PR & Communications role, ideally with agency or in-house leadership exposure
Strong media contacts and a track record of securing meaningful coverage
Sharp writing skills. You can turn a complicated update into something a journalist will actually read
Calm under pressure. Crisis comms is part of the job, not an exception to it
Line management experience, with the ability to coach a team rather than just direct one
Commercial awareness. You understand how communications ties back to business outcomes
Salary of £45,500 to £68,500, depending on experience
Bonus scheme on top of base salary
Private medical insurance and pension contribution
Hybrid working, split between the Birmingham office and home
Generous annual leave plus flexible working arrangements
Genuine professional development opportunities as the company grows
Good communicators are harder to find than businesses expect, and that scarcity shows up in salary and seniority fast. Birmingham's business community has grown into a proper hub for PR & Communications talent, with enough agencies and in-house teams nearby to make career moves realistic rather than theoretical. Get good at this, and the ceiling is high. Few other disciplines let you sit this close to the top table this early.
