Job description

Good Growth

Good Growth is responsible for delivering and implementing the Mayor’s environment, transport and economic strategies and for the effective implementation of the London Plan. The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.

About the team

The role is based within the Culture, Creative Industries and 24 Hour London Unit at the GLA. The Unit delivers the Mayor’s Culture Strategy for London, aiming to provide Londoners with access to culture on their doorsteps.

We do this through a wide range of programmes that support the arts and creative industries to grow and be accessible to all, and the capital to become the number one destination for 24-hour culture and entertainment. Projects include the Creative Economy Growth programme, Creative Enterprise Zones, the East Bank culture and education quarter, work on Diversity in the Public Realm, the Fourth Plinth contemporary art commission series and the London Borough of Culture.

About the role

As the unit’s Communications and Engagement Officer, you will be responsible for the coordination of digital communications and stakeholder engagement for the GLA’s Culture and Creative Industries Unit’s programme of work.

This will include the production and delivery of e-newsletters and social media content, extending the reach of the Unit’s work across the GLA and to external stakeholders.

You will also assist in project planning and management to support the delivery of the unit’s programmes and projects.

This is an exciting time to join our welcoming and collaborative team, as we strengthen London’s cultural infrastructure, support creative professionals and businesses putting down roots and developing, provide cultural opportunities across the city and cement its status as the world’s creative capital.

What your day will look like:

  • You will plan and manage the social media content calendar and output from the London Culture accounts on BlueSky and X.
  • You will provide copy, images and support with social media content to be published by the Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries, and liaise with colleagues in Digital Communications and other units on content relating to our projects being promoted on the Mayor and other Deputy Mayors’ social media channels as needed.
  • You will plan, draft and produce monthly e-newsletters – Culture; Diversity in the Public Realm; and London Borough of Culture – working with colleagues and external partners and stakeholders to gather information.
  • You will support the team’s marketing and communications work, including writing content for blogs on the GLA Intranet, our webpages on London.gov.uk, regular updates on our projects to be included in communications by Good Growth and Internal Communications colleagues, and coordinating event invitations.
  • You will build and maintain relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to assist with relevant communications and projects.

Skills, knowledge and experience:

To be considered for the role, you must meet the following essential criteria:

  • Experience in digital communications, particularly of researching, developing and creating content for digital channels, including e-newsletters and social media.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to write, edit and present clear, accurate and engaging information for different audiences and platforms.
  • Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, coordinating activities to achieve positive outcomes for the organisation.
  • Experience of working within a fast-paced communications environment.
  • Experience of working in the culture and the creative industries sector.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and an understanding of how this commitment applies to this role.

Benefits

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
