General Job Scope Overview

The Commodity Manager will be responsible for developing and executing tactical and strategic commodity plans for the global operations at Fluke, with a focus on the Mechanical vendor base located in EMEA. This individual will lead cost reduction initiatives, on-time delivery, quality, supplier performance and improve on vendor relationships. The position allows for vast and varied exposure across multiple disciplines and business units.

The Mechanical Commodity includes machined parts, stamping, plastics, and cable assemblies, among other various commodities. A majority of components in this commodity are custom designed parts, specified with engineering drawings and requirements. This position requires both technical aptitude and strong relationship building skills. Many managed components in the commodity category are the critical technology within Fluke devices in a variety of complex technologies. A successful Sourcing Manager in this position will form strong partnerships both internally and with suppliers to create influence towards achieving Fluke’s objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advocate on behalf of supply chain function with business units and operational partners to ensure support for core business objectives.
  • Define and manage winning supply chain strategies and approaches with suppliers.
  • Manage vendor relationships and drive year-over-year performance improvements with quality, delivery, costs. Lead regular business reviews with suppliers.
  • Negotiate contracts that provide year-over-year benefits in performance.
  • Analyze received quotations, select or recommend new suppliers.
  • Manage supply base integration for new company acquisitions.
  • Rationalize existing supplier base through the solicitation of competitive bids.
  • Lead new and on-going supplier audit activities to ensure the supply base has robust process controls and capabilities to meet existing and future business requirements.
  • Conduct supply chain risk reviews.
  • Act independently to prescribe methods and new approaches on new and special assignments.
  • Support goals and objectives as established by management.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or Engineering, or relevant experience in supply chain management.
  • At least 5+ years of supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with sourcing Mechanical Parts (Machining, Stamping, Injection Molding, Cable Assemblies). Experience using lean methodology processes in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Experience in a low volume and high mix demand for products environment.
  • Negotiation, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Good organization, project management and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and act in a proactive manner.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to vendor locations once it is safe to do.
