Signature Group in Scotland seeks a motivated Commis Chef to support busy kitchens across our venues. You will assist with food preparation, help senior chefs with cooking, and ensure proper portioning, timing and presentation in a fast-paced environment.

You’ll keep work areas clean, assist with stock management, and uphold health and safety standards. The role includes development within a supportive team and access to our 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.

• Food Preparation – Assist with the preparation of ingredients for dishes, ensuring that all items are prepped according to the kitchen’s standards and recipes.
• Cooking Assistance – Support senior chefs in cooking and assembling dishes, ensuring the correct portion sizes, presentation, and timing.
• Maintaining Cleanliness – Ensure that workstations, kitchen equipment, and utensils are kept clean, tidy, and in good working condition, following hygiene and safety standards.
• Stock Management – Help with the organisation and management of kitchen stock, ensuring that ingredients are stored correctly and that stock levels are monitored.
• Health & Safety Compliance – Follow all food safety regulations and health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment in the kitchen.

Commis Chef Duties

Food Preparation – Assist with the preparation of ingredients for dishes, ensuring that all items are prepped according to the kitchen’s standards and recipes.

Cooking Assistance – Support senior chefs in cooking and assembling dishes, ensuring the correct portion sizes, presentation, and timing.

Maintaining Cleanliness – Ensure that workstations, kitchen equipment, and utensils are kept clean, tidy, and in good working condition, following hygiene and safety standards.

Stock Management – Help with the organisation and management of kitchen stock, ensuring that ingredients are stored correctly and that stock levels are monitored.

Required Skills

Basic Culinary Skills – A solid understanding of cooking techniques, food preparation, and kitchen terminology to assist with cooking and preparing dishes.

Time Management – The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, managing tasks effectively to ensure food is prepared and served on time.

Attention to Detail – Ability to follow recipes and instructions precisely, ensuring consistent quality, presentation, and portion control.

Teamwork & Communication – Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with senior chefs and kitchen staff, as well as good communication to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

Health & Safety Awareness – Knowledge of food safety practices, cleanliness standards, and safe use of kitchen equipment to maintain a hygienic and safe kitchen environment.
