Job summary

Quod Restaurant & Bar in Oxford is seeking a Commis Chef to join the kitchen team led by Head Chef Rohan Kashid. You will thrive on delivering memorable guest experiences, work under pressure, and contribute to daily service and prep. Training will be provided, and the role offers a clear path to develop within The Oxford Collection.

The position involves a 45-hour week with a rota from Monday to Sunday and an OTE up to £16.11 per hour (£37,697 per year). Part-time hours may be considered.

Qualifications

• Experience in similar restaurants is beneficial, though full training will be provided.
• Passionate about cooking seasonal ingredients.
• Ability to work under intense pressure and meet service demands.

Responsibilities

• Confidence in running a section during service.
• Following recipe and presentation specifications.
• Maintain prep levels appropriate to service.
• Ensure deliveries are stored properly and stock is rotated (FIFO).
• Attend and participate in all team meetings.

Quod is an independent, bustling, city centre restaurant, bar & terrace with over 250 seats. Located on Oxford’s famous High Street, Quod is open all day, every day serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea & dinner. The menu consists of European classics with an emphasis on British produce. The busy restaurant, with a high level of repeat business, is open every day of the year.

Quod is part of ‘The Oxford Collection’; a small, privately owned group of two luxury 5* hotels and apartments, three restaurants that consists of the Old Bank Hotel, the Old Parsonage Hotel, 36 St Giles, Parsonage Grill, Gees Restaurant & Bar, and Quod Restaurant & Bar. We are looking for a Commis Chef to join the kitchen team run by Rohan Kashid, Head Chef at Quod and Head of Menu Development at The Oxford Collection.

The ideal candidate will:

• Thrive on giving guests a memorable experience
• Be passionate and knowledgeable about food
• Be able to work under pressure
• Have effective time management skills

Typical duties of this role are:

• Confidence in running a section during service
• Following recipe and presentation specifications
• Maintain prep levels appropriate to service
• Ensure all deliveries are put away as soon as they arrive and stock is rotated using the First In First Out method checking “Use by Dates”
• Attend and participate in all team meetings

Requirements for the Commis Chef position:

• Working under intense pressure
• Passionate about cooking seasonal ingredients
• Experience in similar restaurants is beneficial although full training will be provided

We offer a sensible shift pattern across a 45-hour working week (Monday to Sunday rota with two days off) with an OTE up to £16.11 per hour, £37,697.00 per annum.

Based on 45 hours per week, and including non-contractual tronc (service charge).

Part-time hours may also be considered.
