Job summary

Lawes Consulting Group is assisting a client, a newly established Managing General Agent, to recruit a Commercial Underwriter who will shape products, pricing and the underwriting platform from inception. The role is based in Cardiff and offers the chance to influence the business from its earliest days.

You will underwrite individual cases to a high technical standard while contributing to design, rating logic and the referral framework, collaborating with the Head of Underwriting, actuarial,

Qualifications

• Enjoys the structure and discipline of case underwriting.
• Energised by the ambiguity and pace of a start-up environment.
• Wants direct input into decisions that are normally made several layers above an underwriter's desk.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Head of Underwriting, pricing/actuarial, distribution and IT/change colleagues.
• Be a genuine builder as much as an underwriter.
• Manage and maintain broker and client relationships.
• Underwrite cross-class commercial business.
• Handle referrals that fall outside of authority.
• Build and maintain capacity relationships.
