We're looking for a Precontract Commercial Sales Contract Manager / Quantity Surveyor to join our rapidly growing Commercial Sales Team in Newcastle upon Tyne.

In this role, you'll be reporting to the Head of Commercial Sales, working together with our Commercial Sales Managers in managing and optimizing commercial aspects of the contracts on sales and tendering phase with due professional care.
How You'll Make an Impact

  • Working in close conjunction with commercial sales managers team and commercial contract managers team.
  • Supporting the commercial sales managers in evaluating and assessing risks & opportunities from invitation to tender (ITT) enquiry documents received from our customers.
  • The calculation of rates and fee percentages for inclusion in tender/bid submissions in accordance with the pricing rules and constraints given within the contract terms and conditions.
  • Supporting the commercial sales managers and sales team in the preparation and presentation of pricing document formats for inclusion in tender/bid submissions in accordance with the pricing rules and constraints given within the contract terms and conditions.
  • To engage with our customers, joint venture partners, subcontractor, and stakeholders to address and resolve advanced commercial / contractual issues during the tendering and proposals and sales stage.
  • To collaborate and effectively communicate with the wider senior management team, giving contractual advice relative to the successful submission and negotiation of tender submissions through to contract award and handover to the delivery team.
  • Produce commercial handover documentation effectively communicating all salient matters identified within the sales stage to the delivery phase commercial operations team.
  • Supporting the commercial sales team in establishing strategic subcontract engagement plans as part of the tendering and proposals process.
  • Advising on and drafting contractual terms and conditions for subcontract work packages identified as part of the strategic subcontract engagement plan established during the tendering and proposals stage ensuring main contract terms are flowed down appropriately, the most appropriate procurement route given the circumstances is used to protect the commercial interests of Siemens Energy and quotations and offers received are robust and accurately reflect requirements and risk allocations indented.
  • Management of the full subcontractor ITT process in line with the strategic subcontract engagement plans established.
  • Production of tender reports for key high value subcontract packages selection process outlining the documentation issued, changes made during the tender process, a detailed comparison of tender submissions, advice on the most suitable tenderer and recommended tenderer to proceed to subcontract.
  • Collaborating closely with our legal team as required for support in resolving complex contractual topics within the within the tendering and proposals stage.
  • To actively build positive relationships with our customer, J V partner and subcontract / key supplier teams.
  • Minimising non-conformances though the ongoing continuous learning and improvement process feeding back key issues and identifying process improvement measures.
  • Support to Commercial Sales Manager in respect of identification of the requirement for guarantees, Bonds and other similar security instruments within Tender Enquiries.
  • Compliance with business governance guidelines and requirements.

What You Bring

  • Experience in Quantity Surveying / Contract Management and/or commercial project management
  • Knowledge and familiarity with a variety of Construction and Engineering Forms of Contracts and their subcontracts; in particular extensive experience with the NEC Contract. FIDIC and MF/1 desirable
  • Experience in administering the supplier / subcontractor tendering process and producing salient ITT including subcontract terms and conditions and evaluation documentation.
  • Experience in establishing project budgets and the identification of risk and opportunities.
  • Experience in reviewing and advising on contract terms and conditions. Chartered Quantity Surveyor would be advantageous (RICS / CICES), otherwise further training will be supported by company.
  • Commercially competent including understanding the principles of contract law
