Gateshead Council is recruiting a legally qualified professional (solicitor, barrister or fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) with a current practising certificate to provide commercial and public procurement law advice. The role requires strong drafting, research and advisory skills and the ability to work with corporate clients and local government contexts.

Qualifikationen

• Legally qualified professional with current practicing certificate
• Capability to work at a level typically gained through post-qualification practice
• Strong client-focused approach to understand service needs and provide clear advice
• Excellent research, drafting and analytical skills
• Highly organised with ability to manage a varied caseload and meet deadlines
• Clear and confident communicator capable of negotiating with stakeholders
• Experience with corporate clients and/or local government environment
• Experience in commercial/public procurement or contract law or transferable skills to specialise in this area

Aufgaben

• Provide legal advice and support in relation to commercial contracts and public sector procurement law matters
• Be up to date with legislation including Public Contracts Regulations 2015, Procurement Act 2023 and Subsidy Control Act 2022
• Advise on and apply the Council's Contract Procedure Rules, scheme of delegations and governance procedures
• Take responsibility for preparation and management of public procurement tenders and commercial contracts
• Build relationships with internal and external clients and key stakeholders
• Instruct external specialists as required
• Maintain close contact with the Service Manager on all issues
• Provide concise advice on complex legal issues to senior officers and directors at board/committee meetings
• Respond to reasonable requests to undertake other responsibilities appropriate to the grade
