Allianz UK seeks a Commercial Motor Underwriting Manager to lead technical underwriting, shape growth and profitability within the CUO Motor portfolio. Hybrid role with office in London or Guildford, reporting to the Senior Underwriting Manager.

You will drive segmentation, pricing data usage, risk management and governance to deliver sustainable profitability. The role demands strong leadership, negotiation and analytical skills, plus experience in motor fleet underwriting and a professional

Qualifications

• Experience of Underwriting Motor Fleet business.
• Experience in a general insurer environment with top/bottom-line responsibility.
• Supervisory/management/team leadership experience.
• Proven delivery against objectives.
• Understanding of underwriting concepts and principles.
• Professional qualification such as ACII (preferable).
• Responsible AI usage.

Commercial Motor Underwriting Manager

Role Description

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join the Allianz Commercial CUO Motor Team as a Commercial Motor Underwriting Manager, reporting to the Senior Underwriting Manager. The Commercial Motor portfolio is one of the largest lines of business in Allianz UK making it integral to the continued success of Allianz Commercial.

The role provides an exciting opportunity to shape the growth and profitability ambitions for the account, exploring market opportunities, developing improved segmentation and optimising the use of pricing data assets.

Location: This is a hybrid role, with the expectation to be in office 2 days per week. We are flexible on location, but primary office locations are London and Guildford.

Salary Information

Pay: Circa £72,000 per year.

Pay is dependent on experience, skills and location and is part of our total reward package.

The Role

Your role will vary day to day, but here is a bit of what you can expect:

• Supporting the delivery of growth and profitability in line with the portfolio objectives.
• Your responsibilities will include product development, underwriter development, thought leadership as well as supporting our regional offices.
• Supporting the development of superior technical underwriting and analytical skills.
• Developing and applying appropriate risk management offerings and techniques.
• Maintaining and improving underwriting standards.
• Ensuring that appropriate targets, objectives and development plans to support the accounts aspirations to grow profitably.
• Collaborate closely with Senior Underwriting Managers and Principal Underwriters to strengthen underwriting capability and drive continuous improvement.
• Support underwriting governance and audit activities across Mid-Market and Digital portfolios, ensuring regulatory compliance, robust controls, and the identification of risks and improvement opportunities.

Essential Skills

To be a success in this role, you will have a strong commercial background as well as the following:

• Outstanding Commercial Motor technical underwriting ability
• In depth knowledge of the Commercial Motor market
• Strong leadership skills
• Proven account management skills
• Strong negotiating/influencing skills
• Engaging and confident communication skills
• Excellent presentation skills
• Excellent numerical and analytical ability

We are looking for somebody with:

• Experience of Underwriting Motor Fleet business
• Experience of working within a general insurer environment with responsibility for top and bottom-line performance of a portfolio or suite of portfolios
• Supervisory/management/team leadership experience
• Strong record of delivery against challenging objectives
• Proven ability to understand key underwriting concepts and principles
• Professional qualified such as ACII or equivalent would be preferable
• Responsible Artificial Intelligence usage
