Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is seeking a Commercial Manager to lead commercial activities on a major bridge project in East Suffolk. You will manage subcontract drafting, administration and claims while coordinating with clients and project teams to deliver on time and within budget.

Applicants should have a degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Commercial Management and strong experience with NEC contracts. RICS membership is desirable.

Qualifications

• Degree (or higher) in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Commercial Management.
• RICS membership is desirable, though not essential.
• Strong knowledge and practical application of NEC contracts.
• Experience in direct delivery environments supporting projects through the full lifecycle.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Managing commercial activities across the project section from pre-construction through to completion.
• Coordinating with subcontractors, clients, and project teams to support successful delivery outcomes.
• Supporting financial, contractual, and commercial management to help achieve project objectives.
• Preparing monthly cost reports, contract reviews, and business planning inputs.
• Managing subcontract drafting, administration, settlements of accounts and claims.
• Overseeing change control processes and risk management.
• Providing contractual and commercial advice to project teams.
• Supporting continuous improvement and development of colleagues within the commercial team.

Commercial Manager opportunity

Expanded Structures are the specialist reinforced concrete basement, sub and superstructure frame construction division of Laing O'Rourke and are currently recruiting a Commercial Manager to join the team on a major bridge project based in East Suffolk.

What will the role look like?

• Managing commercial activities across your project section from pre-construction through to completion.
• Coordinating with subcontractors, clients, and project teams to support successful delivery outcomes.
• Supporting strong financial, contractual, and commercial management to help achieve project objectives.
• Preparing monthly cost reports, contract reviews, BPR information, and business planning inputs.
• Managing subcontract drafting, administration, and settlement of accounts and claims.
• Overseeing change control processes and ensuring effective risk and opportunity management.
• Providing contractual and commercial advice to project teams.
• Supporting continuous improvement and encouraging best practice across operations.
• Supporting the development of colleagues within the commercial team.
• Ensuring contract documentation is properly completed and compliant prior to project commencement.
• Highlighting and escalating risks or issues that may affect project or business performance.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

• Degree (or higher) qualification in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Commercial Management.
