Job summary

PKB Civils Ltd. in Rochdale is seeking a Commercial Manager to take ownership of its commercial function across civil engineering projects.

You will lead valuations, variations, final accounts and reporting, working closely with Directors to protect margins and drive growth. This hands-on role combines strategic development with hands-on site involvement, including estimating leadership, CVRs, procurement, and strong client and supply-chain relationships.

Qualifications

• Experience as Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor in civil engineering, groundworks or external works.
• Confident managing CVRs, valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Strong subcontractor procurement experience and estimating/tender pricing.
• Good knowledge of JCT contracts, ideally including Design & Build; NEC experience advantageous.
• Willingness to travel to sites and to work in a smaller/medium contractor environment.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of commercial activity across projects, including valuations, applications for payment, variations and final accounts.
• Produce monthly Cost Value Reconcilations and monitor project costs, margins and commercial performance.
• Work with the Accounts Manager to provide clear commercial and margin reporting to Directors.
• Lead estimating and surveying activity, supporting tender pricing, cost build-ups and mark-up decisions.
• Review drawings and scopes to identify costs, risks and opportunities.
• Manage subcontractor procurement from enquiries to orders and final accounts.
• Build strong relationships with clients, contractors and supply chain.
• Improve commercial processes and help develop the team as the business grows.
• Attend project sites when required.

We are a growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor looking to appoint a Commercial Manager to take ownership of its commercial function.

Working closely with the Directors, you will oversee the commercial lifecycle from tender pricing through to final account, bringing structure to processes, protecting project margins and supporting the business as it grows.

This is a hands-on opportunity with real influence over how the commercial function develops. It could suit an experienced Commercial Manager or a Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to take the next step into a broader role.

The role

About you

• Experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, groundworks or external works


• Confident managing CVRs, valuations, variations and final accounts


• Strong subcontractor procurement experience and a sound understanding of estimating and tender pricing


• Good knowledge of JCT contracts, ideally including Design & Build, with NEC experience advantageous


• Comfortable working within a smaller or medium-sized contractor, taking ownership and remaining close to the detail


• Commercially focused, organised and confident working directly with senior leadership


• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
