This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role within a well-established residential groundworks specialist, managing commercial operations across multiple new build housing developments for leading housebuilders and housing associations across the West Midlands.
Our client is a respected, medium-sized civil engineering and groundworks business with long-standing relationships across the region. With decades of successful project delivery, they pride themselves on maintaining a hands-on, personal approach while delivering schemes to Tier 1 standards.
They specialise in residential groundworks, infrastructure and external works for private developers and social housing providers, typically delivering multi-phase housing developments from £1m to £10m.
As Commercial Manager, youll take ownership of all commercial activity across live and upcoming projects, overseeing a small but experienced team of Quantity Surveyors and reporting directly to the Directors.
This is a pivotal position that blends strategic oversight with day-to-day commercial management, ensuring projects are delivered profitably, efficiently and to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage all commercial aspects of multiple residential groundworks projects across the Midlands.
Oversee cost planning, tendering, procurement, valuations and final accounts.
Manage and mentor a small team of QSs, supporting their ongoing development.
Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractor and key stakeholders.
Negotiate and agree subcontracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
Provide regular commercial reporting and forecasts to Directors.
Support business development, tenders and new work opportunities.
Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior QS within residential groundworks or civil engineering.
Strong understanding of new build housing schemes for housing associations and developers.
Excellent contractual knowledge (NEC / JCT).
Strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills.
Ability to work both strategically and hands on across commercial delivery.
Based in the West Midlands and able to travel to live sites across the region.
Competitive salary of £70,000 £85,000 + Car + Package (depending on experience).
