The role combines leadership of commercial teams with ensuring profitability, contractual compliance and strong client and supply chain relationships.

Qualifications

• Extensive commercial management experience on civils/infrastructure projects.
• Strong ability to forecast, report cashflow and manage budgets.
• Proven track record of leading commercial teams and negotiating contracts.
• Excellent stakeholder management and client relationship skills.
• Experience with NEC, JCT and ICC contracts and risk/change control.
• Leadership capability to mentor QS teams and drive best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial management of multiple civils projects.
• Develop and implement strategies to maximise profitability.
• Manage CVRs, forecasting, cashflow and financial reporting.
• Oversee budgets and monitor project commercial performance.
• Handle NEC/JCT/ICC contracts and contractual compliance.
• Lead subcontract procurement, negotiations and supply chain management.
• Identify commercial risks/opportunities and manage change control.
• Oversee valuations, final accounts and cash collection.
• Provide commercial support during pre-construction, tenders and bids.
• Mentor and develop QS team members and build strong client/subcontractor relationships.
• Support dispute resolution and provide contractual advice when required.
• Ensure governance and commercial controls across the business.

Job description

A multi-disciplinary main contractor based in the midlands that excels in the delivery of construction projects on a national scale is looking to hire an experienced Commercial Manager to join the business to take overall responsibility for the commercial performance of a portfolio of civils and infrastructure projects in the Midlands

Office base is in Northampton but they are open to candidates working from home and travelling to sites

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Commercial, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably and in line with contractual obligations and will provide commercial leadership across multiple schemes, working closely with operational teams, clients and senior stakeholders to drive performance, maximise profitability and support the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial management of multiple civils and infrastructure projects.
• Develop and implement commercial strategies to maximise profitability.
• Manage CVRs, forecasting, cashflow and financial reporting.
• Oversee budgets and monitor commercial performance across projects.
• Manage NEC, JCT and ICC contracts, ensuring contractual compliance.
• Lead subcontract procurement, negotiations and supply chain management.
• Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and change control.
• Oversee valuations, final accounts and cash collection.
• Provide commercial support during pre-construction, tender reviews and bid submissions.
• Lead, mentor and develop Managing Quantity Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
• Build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
• Support dispute resolution and provide contractual advice where required.
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, governance and commercial controls.
• Drive continuous improvement and commercial best practice across the business.

Experience & Qualifications

• Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
• Extensive commercial management experience within a Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor.
• Proven experience managing multiple projects and leading commercial teams.
• Excellent knowledge of NEC, JCT and ICC contracts.
• Strong financial management, forecasting and commercial reporting experience.
• Experience managing subcontract procurement and commercial risk.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial management systems.
• MRICS or MCIOB (desirable).

Salary / Package

Negotiable Salary of Between £85,000 - £100,000 dependant on expertise and level plus.
