Job summary

Optimum Recruitment Group Limited seeks an experienced Management Accountant to join their growing team in Wakefield. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role is newly created and combines strong commercial focus with financial modelling and forecasting.

You will support the FC and CFO with budgeting, forecasting and management reporting, developing P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow forecasts while driving automation and reporting improvements.

Qualifications

• Strong management accounting experience in a reasonably complex business.
• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, part-qualified or equivalent experience.
• Strong month-end and management accounts experience.
• Practical budgeting and forecasting experience.
• Strong Excel and financial modelling skills.
• Ability to analyse financial information and explain the commercial story behind the numbers.
• Confidence working with non-finance stakeholders and challenging assumptions.
• Good understanding of P&L, Balance Sheet and cash-flow relationships.
• Strong systems aptitude and an interest in improving/automating reporting.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and take ownership of deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate monthly management accounts including P&L analysis, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Develop reporting across sales channels and other areas of the business.
• Analyse performance against budget, forecast and prior periods and explain variances.
• Provide commercial insight beyond the numbers.
• Support budgeting and regular reforecasting processes.
• Develop detailed P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow forecasts with FC and CFO.
• Assist with scenario modelling and sensitivity analysis for trading and operational decisions.
• Collaborate with operational managers to challenge assumptions and understand performance.
• Support month-end close and ensure reporting deadlines are met.
• Work with Financial Accountant and Systems/Data teams to improve reporting quality and automation.
• Assist year-end and audit requirements and ad-hoc commercial projects.
