What we are looking for

We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic Commercial Lead to oversee and drive the commercial, cost, and supply chain strategies for our Ministry of Justice Projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who can ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. Reporting directly to the Sector Lead, you will play a key role in managing multiple projects, driving performance, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

As the Commercial Lead, you will have full oversight of project delivery, ensuring that all commercial aspects, from cost control and supply chain management to risk mitigation, are efficiently managed. You will ensure the delivery of projects in line with our commercial strategy, supporting the achievement of profitability, growth, and sector objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the development and implementation of commercial, cost, and supply chain strategies, ensuring they align with our objectives and support project success.
  2. Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks across projects, ensuring opportunities are optimised for the benefit of the company.
  3. Oversee and manage project costs, ensuring effective control across all project stages: tendering, design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and operation.
  4. Ensure projects are delivered within agreed budgets and timelines, maintaining a clear focus on quality, health and safety, and environmental standards.
  5. Develop and implement project-specific strategies, ensuring accurate scopes, budgets, and effective change control procedures are in place.
  6. Lead negotiations with clients and suppliers, ensuring best-value procurement and favourable contract terms.
  7. Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to support commercial success and drive collaboration.
  8. Maintain effective supplier performance management and ensure the resilience of the supply chain to meet production and delivery targets.
  9. Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and company policies throughout all commercial activities.

  1. Exceptional leadership abilities with a proven track record of motivating and developing high-performing teams.
  2. Strong strategic thinking with the ability to align commercial strategies with long-term company objectives.
  3. Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects, ensuring successful delivery within time, cost, and quality parameters.
  4. Proven ability to manage commercial risks, optimise opportunities, and drive cost control throughout all project phases.
  5. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels.
  6. Extensive experience in pre and post-contract management, including supplier procurement and contract negotiation.
  7. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve issues proactively.
