About 411

411 is a political digital agency working with progressive clients across the UK and around the globe. We grew out of the team behind the Labour Party’s 2024 general election victory, and have since expanded both locally and internationally — delivering strategy, content, and campaigns that help progressive movements build power, grow their supporter bases, and win. We are unapologetically centre-left.

Role Overview

As the Commercial Lead, you will help grow 411’s work with progressive organisations, developing new client relationships and leading digital campaigns that deliver on their goals. You’ll work within our campaigns team, turning an understanding of clients’ political and organisational challenges into clear proposals, effective strategies, and well-delivered projects.

You’ll take responsibility for client relationships from the first conversation through to delivery and renewal, working closely with specialists across 411 to bring together the right approach for each campaign. This could involve content, digital advertising, social listening, email, creators, or social organising.

Alongside developing new business, you’ll lead and support colleagues delivering client work, ensuring campaigns are politically astute, creative, and commercially sustainable. You’ll work with the commercial team to identify opportunities, shape our offer, and build lasting relationships with clients.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Commercial Strategy: Develop and deliver a plan for growing our work with progressive clients. Identify organisations whose goals align with 411’s expertise, understand their needs, and develop opportunities for us to work together.
  • New Business and Pitching: Lead new business conversations, develop proposals, and present campaign recommendations to prospective clients. Work with colleagues across 411 to produce compelling pitches with clear objectives, realistic budgets, and a practical plan for delivery.
  • Campaign Strategy: Develop digital campaign strategies grounded in clients’ political objectives, audiences, and resources. Bring together the right mix of services across 411, translating strategic recommendations into clear plans for internal teams and clients.
  • Client Management: Independently manage relationships with key clients, acting as a trusted point of contact and providing strategic advice throughout a campaign. Understand their priorities, communicate progress clearly, and address questions or concerns as they arise.
  • Ensuring a High Level of Delivery: Oversee the planning, execution, and monitoring of client campaigns, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard. Remain involved in delivery where needed, helping colleagues solve problems and maintaining clear accountability across projects.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor colleagues within the campaigns team, supporting their development in client management, campaign strategy, and project delivery. Line manage more junior members of staff and helps build a collaborative team that takes pride in its work.
  • Performance and Reporting: Set clear objectives and measures of success for campaigns. Work with colleagues to track performance, explain results, and use findings to improve delivery. Develop case studies that demonstrate the impact of our work and support future pitches.
  • Collaboration and Innovation: Work closely with specialists across 411 to develop our campaign offer, share learning, and improve how we deliver projects. Stay informed about political developments, digital trends, and emerging tools, including opportunities to use AI effectively.
  • Travel: Travel as required to meet clients, attend events, and manage projects both domestically and internationally.
Experience
  • At least five years’ experience in digital campaigning, strategic communications, client management, business development, or a closely related field.
  • Experience leading digital campaigns or communications projects, from developing a strategy through to delivery and evaluation.
  • Experience independently managing client or stakeholder relationships and providing strategic advice.
  • Experience developing proposals, pitching for work, or securing funding and support for campaigns or projects.
  • Experience managing project budgets, resources, and competing deadlines.
  • Experience managing a small to mid-sized team, with direct line management responsibilities a plus.
  • Experience working in a political, agency, union, or third sector/NGO environment is desirable.
Skills
  • Ability to understand a client’s goals and translate them into a clear, practical digital campaign strategy.
  • Strong commercial judgement, including the ability to scope work, develop budgets, and balance client ambitions with available resources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing proposals and presenting recommendations confidently.
  • Strong political judgement and an understanding of how digital campaigns can advance progressive causes.
  • Ability to build trust with clients and colleagues, manage expectations, and handle difficult conversations constructively.
  • An understanding of how content, advertising, email, social organising, creators, and social listening can contribute to a campaign.
  • Confidence using AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini to support research, planning, proposal writing, and campaign delivery.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of another language is helpful but not essential.
Benefits
  • Salary: £58,803–£69,495 per annum, dependent on experience [to confirm].
  • Flexible Working: Option to work remotely, with offices in Leeds and London available for in-person collaboration.
  • Generous Pension Scheme: 7% employer contribution.
  • Generous Parental Leave Policy.
