Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a qualified Commercial Gas & Heating Engineer to join the Facilities Management team at HMP Northumberland.

You will perform gas safety inspections, servicing and repairs across the prison estate, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry standards while working within a secure environment.

Qualifications

• Current Gas Safe Registered status is essential.
• Completion of a recognised Commercial Gas/Heating apprenticeship.
• ACS, COCN1, CDGA1, ICPN1 qualifications are required.
• Industry-recognised heating qualifications.
• Experience maintaining and repairing commercial gas-fired equipment and heating systems.
• Strong knowledge of gas safety legislation and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Carry out gas safety inspections, testing, servicing and maintenance.
• Complete CP15 and CP17 inspections and certification.
• Diagnose faults and repair commercial gas-fired heating, hot water and ventilation systems.
• Read and interpret technical drawings and manufacturer instructions.
• Undertake planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance.
• Maintain accurate gas safety records and documentation.
• Support general maintenance activities and collaborate with the engineering team.
• Escort specialist contractors when required.
• Participate in out-of-hours on-call rota.
• Work in line with Health & Safety legislation, Gas Safe regulations and Sodexo policies.

We're looking for a qualified and experienced Commercial Gas & Heating Engineer to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Northumberland.

This is an opportunity to use your specialist skills in a role that combines technical expertise with a genuine contribution to the safe operation of a secure environment.

As part of our maintenance team, you'll be responsible for carrying out gas safety inspections, testing, servicing, maintenance and repairs across the prison estate, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with current legislation and industry standards.

What you'll be doing

• Carrying out commercial gas safety inspections, testing, servicing and maintenance.
• Completing CP15 and CP17 inspections and certification.
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs to commercial gas-fired heating, hot water and ventilation systems.

What we’re looking for

Essential requirements include:

• Current Gas Safe Registered Engineer status.
• Completion of a recognised Commercial Gas/Heating apprenticeship.
• ACS
• COCN1
• CDGA1
• ICPN1
• Industry-recognised heating qualifications.
• Experience maintaining and repairing commercial gas-fired equipment and heating systems.
• Strong knowledge of commercial gas safety legislation and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with minimal supervision.
• Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.A proactive approach to planned and reactive maintenance.

About the role

This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days are the same.

The role can be physically demanding and will involve activities such as climbing, crawling, lifting and working in confined spaces. You'll also be responsible for the safe use and security of tools and equipment.

Additional training may be provided where required, including specialist prison maintenance training such as locksmithing to support wider site maintenance requirements.
