Job summary

Infrastructure Gateway Ltd is seeking a Commercial Apprentice to join our commercial, quantity surveying and project delivery teams in civil engineering and utility infrastructure projects. The role offers hands-on experience in cost control, procurement, contract administration, invoicing and project reporting while developing the skills for a career in commercial management.

Responsibilities

  • Support project teams in monitoring costs, cashflow, and overall project performance.
  • Assist with basic contract administration tasks and learn how contracts are managed throughout a project.
  • Learn how commercial reports, cost reviews and project financial updates are prepared and maintained.
  • Learn how to prepare and organise record for variations, Early Warning Notices, Compensation Events.
  • Help maintain accurate project files, trackers and commercial documentation in line with IGL processes.
  • Attend project and commercial meetings where appropriate, taking notes, following actions and building confidence in commercial discussions.
  • Develop an understanding of contracts, payment mechanisms, subcontractor accounts, valuations and final account processes.
  • Participate fully in apprenticeship learning, reviews and development activities, applying learning back into the workplace.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, attention to detail, willingness to learn and commitment to IGL’s values, policies and procedures.

Job description

Commercial Apprentice

Salary: £16,500 per annum
Location: Kettering, Northamptonshire
Contract: Apprenticeship

The Role:

The Commercial Apprentice will support the commercial, quantity surveying and project delivery teams across civil engineering and utility infrastructure projects. The role provides structured, hands‑on experience in cost control, procurement, contract administration, applications, invoicing, variations and project reporting while developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for a long‑term career in commercial management or quantity surveying.

Key Responsibilities:

What you'll need:
Experience / Knowledge
  • A genuine interest in developing a career in commercial management, quantity surveying, construction, civil engineering or utilities.

Education / Qualifications
  • Working towards, or willing to enrol on, a relevant apprenticeship route in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction, Built Environment or a related discipline.
  • GCSEs, or equivalent qualifications, at Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English (desirable and may be required depending on the apprenticeship provider).
  • Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel, with a willingness to learn IGL systems and commercial trackers.
