Job summary

Winsearch is seeking an experienced Coded Welder in Wakefield for a temporary contract. The role focuses on coded welding of carbon steel pipework, reading drawings, and working from weld procedures to deliver high-quality welds in a busy engineering and fabrication environment.

Applicants should have experience with TIG, MIG, MMA or FCAW and be capable of producing precise welds to coded standards, while adhering to safety and quality procedures.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a coded pipe welder in engineering, fabrication or similar environments.
• Current or previous pipe welding coding such as BS EN ISO 9606-1/BS EN ISO or ASME IX approvals.
• Strong practical pipe welding ability with TIG, MIG, MMA or FCAW processes.
• Experience welding carbon steel pipe 5mm–12.5mm wall thickness is advantageous.
• Ability to read technical drawings and follow written job instructions.
• High attention to detail and commitment to producing clean, reliable welds.
• Good understanding of workshop safety and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Carry out coded welding on carbon steel pipework and associated fabricated components.
• Work on carbon steel pipe with wall thicknesses 5mm to 12.5mm.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications.
• Prepare, tack, weld, grind and finish materials to required standard.
• Complete pipe welding using TIG, MIG, MMA or FCAW as required by project.
• Work to approved weld procedures ensuring weld quality and finish meet standards.
• Carry out pre-weld preparation, fit-up checks and post-weld cleaning as needed.
• Inspect completed welds and ensure compliance with safety and production standards.
• Use workshop tools safely including grinders, plasma cutters and hand tools.
• Work well in a team or independently as required.
• Follow all site, workshop, health & safety and quality procedures.
