The ideal candidate holds ICorr or NACE/AMPP Level 1 or 2, is capable of reviewing ITPs, monitoring environmental conditions and ensuring compliance with project standards, with UK SC clearance and national eligibility.
As a Coatings Inspector, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of coating application and corrosion protection on major shipbuilding projects. If you have a keen eye for detail, a commitment to quality, and the drive to maintain industry-leading standards, we want to hear from you.
Your role will involve client-side inspection of abrasive blasting, surface preparation and protective coating application on units in build. The role requires a proactive, practical inspector with sound industry experience who can work independently, act as the on-site focal point for coating activities, coordinate inspection priorities and maintain positive working relationships with the coating supplier, shipyard personnel and the wider client team.
Inspect abrasive blasting, surface preparation and coating application to ensure compliance with project specifications, approved procedures and applicable standards.
Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) to confirm inspection stages, acceptance criteria, hold points, witness points and documentation requirements are clearly understood and implemented.
Monitor environmental conditions, surface cleanliness, profile, contamination levels, coating thickness and application requirements.
Identify coating defects and non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions and remedial work are completed and verified.
Maintain accurate inspection reports, test results, environmental readings and quality documentation using appropriate computer systems.
Act as the on-site focal point for coating works, coordinating inspection activities and communication between the client, coating supplier and shipyard teams.
Plan and prioritise inspections in line with the build programme, anticipating upcoming requirements and ensuring specified inspection points are not missed.
Work closely with the coating supplier and technical representatives to resolve issues and maintain positive, professional working relationships.
Work on own initiative, applying sound technical knowledge and practical judgement to anticipate problems and identify effective solutions.
Respond promptly to emergent issues and changing site priorities without compromising quality or specification requirements.
