Job summary

A leading marine research organization in Liverpool is seeking a Coastal Ocean Modelling Scientist to develop and apply ocean modelling capabilities. The successful candidate will engage in collaborative research and develop their own scientific direction. A PhD in physical oceanography is required, along with programming skills and experience in environmental modelling. Competitive salary and a flexible working environment offered.

Qualifications

• Experience in dynamical environmental modelling, preferably in oceanography.
• High performance computing experience.
• Strong understanding of ocean shelf sea physics.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test and apply coastal ocean modelling capabilities using the NEMO ocean model.
• Carry out multi-decadal simulations for climate change studies.
• Collaborate widely with UK Met Office and the NEMO consortium.

Dynamical environmental modelling

Expert programming in FORTRAN

High performance computing

Understanding of ocean physics

Education

Strong 1st degree in a numerate science, engineering or mathematics discipline

PhD or equivalent research experience in physical oceanography
