Lead the Coach Operation at Arriva

Are you an experienced PCV professional who combines strong operational knowledge with excellent organisation, communication and customer service skills? We’re looking for a Coach Operations Supervisor to join the Arriva Group team at our Bangor depot, taking responsibility for the day-to‑day supervision and coordination of our dedicated Bangor to Aberystwyth coach service. This is a key operational role with accountability for ensuring our coach operation is compliant, well staffed and delivering a safe, reliable and customer-focused service. You'll be the key point of contact for the coach operation, working closely with drivers, depot colleagues and management to resolve issues, maintain standards and keep the service moving.

What you'll be responsible for

Tachograph and compliance
  • Taking accountability for tachograph compliance across the coach operation.
  • Monitoring drivers' hours and tachograph records to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company procedures.
  • Identifying and addressing potential compliance issues.
  • Supporting drivers with tachograph-related queries and ensuring appropriate records are maintained.
  • Ensuring operational standards and safety requirements are consistently followed.
Service and operational delivery
  • Supervising the day-to-day operation of the Bangor to Aberystwyth coach service.
  • Coordinating diversions and service changes, ensuring drivers receive clear and timely information.
  • Managing operational issues and unexpected disruption, making effective decisions to minimise the impact on customers.
  • Taking accountability for duty coverage, ensuring all scheduled work is appropriately resourced.
  • Supporting the smooth running of the service across a 24-hour operation.
  • Working closely with depot management and drivers to resolve operational challenges quickly and effectively.
People and resource management
  • Managing and coordinating holiday allocation for the coach team, ensuring appropriate cover is maintained.
  • Supporting drivers with day-to-day operational queries and providing guidance where required.
  • Building positive working relationships with drivers and colleagues.
  • Ensuring the coach team understands and follows company policies, procedures and operational requirements.
  • Escalating performance, conduct, safety or compliance concerns appropriately.
Customer service
  • Taking accountability for customer complaints relating to the coach operation.
  • Investigating complaints thoroughly and ensuring appropriate responses and actions are provided.
  • Identifying recurring customer issues and working with colleagues to improve the customer experience.
  • Maintaining a strong customer focus across the entire operation.
Driving
  • Although this is primarily a supervisory and operational role, you may also be required to drive the coaches as and when required by the business.
  • You will therefore need to hold a valid PCV Category D licence and be comfortable undertaking driving duties when operationally necessary.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who understands passenger transport, can take ownership of an operation and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves when the business needs them.

Essential requirements
  • A valid PCV Category D licence.
  • Valid Driver CPC / Driver Qualification Card.
  • A valid Tachocard.
  • Strong knowledge of tachograph requirements and drivers' hours legislation.
  • Previous experience within bus, coach or passenger transport operations.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Experience dealing with customer complaints and resolving issues professionally.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to coordinate and manage operational cover effectively.
  • Good understanding of the importance of safety, compliance and operational standards.
  • The flexibility to work 38 hours per week, 5 days out of 7, within a 24-hour operation, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and potentially bank holidays.
  • A professional, reliable and accountable approach.

One route. One team. One person making it happen.

You'll have genuine ownership across the operation, from ensuring tachograph compliance and arranging duty cover, through to managing holiday allocation, coordinating diversions and resolving customer complaints. And when the operation needs it, you'll also be ready to get behind the wheel and drive the service yourself. It's a varied role where no two days are guaranteed to be the same, making it ideal for an experienced PCV professional who wants to take the next step into operational supervision.
