Job summary

Warrender Baths Club is seeking motivated coaches to join our youth and age-group pathway in Scotland. You will deliver high-quality coaching with input from the Head Coach and help plan sessions and seasonal calendars.

Ideal candidates will have UKCC Level 1 or equivalent, a passion for swimming, and the ability to work flexibly including weekends. The role is self-employed with competitive remuneration based on experience.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build rapport with young athletes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching to athletes within the programme with support from Head Coach.
  • Help set the competition calendar and attend meetings/competitions as required.
  • Ensure a progressive squad culture and maximise individual potential.
  • Assist in writing season plans and sessions.
  • Submit meet entries within deadlines if required.
  • Provide reports on squad performance to Head Coach.

Job description

Warrender Baths Club is Scotland’s leading and most successful swimming Age Group and Youth programme, consistently finishing in the Top 3 at the Scottish National Age Group Championships with a history of placing youth swimmers onto National teams (British and Scottish).

We are offering coaching opportunities in our competitive pathway and seek highly motivated, creative individuals to add value to our current team. We are looking for candidates who share our ethos of delivering the highest standards of coaching, whilst supporting the development of life-long skills and values in our athletes.

Induction and mentoring are provided by the Head Coach, Laurel Bailey.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide coaching to athletes within the programme, supported by the Head Coach, to deliver the highest attainable levels of individual performance.
  • Work with the Head Coach to set an appropriate competition calendar for the squad and attend competitions as required and agreed with the Head Coach.
  • Ensure a progressive squad culture is in place which will maximise individual potential within an enjoyable and rewarding team environment.
  • Work alongside the Head Coach/coaching team to prepare and write appropriate season plans & sessions.
  • Submit meet entries within deadlines (if required).
  • Provide reports and updates on squad performance to the Head Coach from time to time.
Skills & Attributes
  • Successful candidates will be passionate about swimming and enjoy working with children of varying stages of development
  • Observant and swimmer-focussed, showing great attention to technical detail
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to develop a rapport with young athletes, encouraging them to love the sport of swimming and all it has to offer
  • A desire to learn
Requirements
  • UKCC Level 1 minimum (or equivalent), and able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the principles of long-term athlete development
  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated, ideally with a background in swimming and/or prior coaching experience
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include weekend training sessions and some weekend competitions
  • Willing and able to work effectively with a coaching and administration team and to develop positive relationships with key partners of the Club
  • Sound IT skills
  • Complete an enhanced Disclosure Scotland check (PVG), including self-declaration form and 2 satisfactory references.
  • Abide by and promote sound ethics, Club policies and Scottish Swimming policies, in particular with regard to child wellbeing and protection, fair play and equal opportunities to all members
  • Sign and adhere to the Coach’s Code of Conduct
  • Attend appropriate training as discussed with and agreed by the Head Coach, including the National Rescue Award. This will be arranged by the Club.

This is a self-employed position with competitive remuneration, depending on experience and qualifications. A 3-month probationary period will require to be completed before the position is confirmed.
