You will set and operate CNC turning machines to manufacture precision components to drawings and route cards, ensuring first-off inspection and ongoing quality.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Set and operate CNC lathes per drawings and route cards.
• Load, prove out and run CNC programs.
• Install tooling, fixtures and work-holding equipment.
• Produce first-off components for inspection and approval.
• Carry out in-process inspection and measurement.
• Read and interpret drawings and tolerances.
• Maintain dimensional accuracy across production runs.
• Adjust offsets and tooling to maintain quality.
• Complete production and quality records.
• Comply with ISO 9001 procedures and 5S standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment.
• Report faults and assist with maintenance.
• Support continuous improvement and team development.

The Role

We are currently looking for an experienced CNC Turner Setter / Operator to join the production team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating CNC turning machines to manufacture precision-engineered components in accordance with customer drawings and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and operate CNC lathes in accordance with engineering drawings and route cards.
• Load, prove out and run CNC programmes.
• Select and install appropriate tooling, fixtures and work-holding equipment.
• Produce first-off components for inspection and approval.
• Carry out in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances.
• Maintain dimensional accuracy throughout production runs.
• Adjust machine offsets and tooling to maintain product quality.
• Complete production and quality documentation accurately.
• Work in accordance with ISO 9001 quality procedures and company operating standards.
• Ensure components are correctly identified and handled throughout manufacture.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment in line with 5S principles.
• Carry out routine machine maintenance and report faults promptly.
• Work efficiently to achieve production targets while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Assist with continuous improvement activities.
• Support colleagues and contribute positively to the wider production team.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Previous experience setting and operating CNC turning machines.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Competent using micrometers, verniers, bore gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
• Good understanding of machining tolerances.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Flexible approach to overtime when required.

Desirable

• Experience with Fanuc controls.
• Experience producing precision components within a subcontract engineering environment.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Apprentice-trained or equivalent engineering qualification.
• Experience machining a range of materials, including steels, stainless steels, aluminium and exotic alloys.

• Stop production and report any quality concerns immediately.
• Complete inspection and quality records accurately.
