Job summary

Optical Precision, an established high-precision engineering firm near Southend-on-Sea, is seeking a CNC Turner to join our workshop. You will set and operate CNC lathes (or fully program them) from drawings to produce small-batch components to tight tolerances.

We offer dayshift Mon-Fri with early finish Fridays, a competitive hourly rate (£18-£22) with overtime and benefits including 25 days holiday, pension and free parking.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a CNC Turner (Setter/Operator or Programmer/Setter).
• Strong proficiency with Fanuc controls (essential).
• Ability to work to tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
• Background in high-precision sectors desirable (Aerospace, Automotive, Motorsport/Oil & Gas).
• Team-player with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate (or program online) CNC turning centres using Fanuc control systems.
• Manufacture small batches and one-off prototype components.
• Interpret complex engineering drawings and geometric tolerances.
• Inspect own work using precision measuring equipment.
• Collaborate with workshop team to optimise cycle times.

Job Title: CNC Turner (Programmer/Setter OR Setter/Operator)

Salary: £18.00 - £22.00 per hour (Dependent on experience) + Extensive Overtime & Benefits

Shift: Days / Mon-Fri, Early Finish Fridays

The Role

You will set and operate (or fully program, depending on your skill level) CNC Lathes utilizing Fanuc controls. Working directly from engineering drawings, you will produce critical, low-volume components to exceptionally tight tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and Operate (or Program online) CNC Turning centres using Fanuc control systems.
• Manufacture small batches and one-off prototype components.
• Interpret complex engineering drawings and geometric tolerances independently.
• Inspect your own work using standard precision measuring equipment to ensure total quality.
• Collaborate with the wider workshop team to optimize cycle times and production efficiency.

What We Are Looking For

• Proven experience as a CNC Turner (either as a Setter/Operator or Programmer/Setter).
• Strong proficiency with Fanuc controls (essential).
• Ability to work confidently to tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
• A background in high-precision sectors is highly desirable (e.g., Aerospace, Automotive, Motorsport/F1, or Oil & Gas).
• A team-first attitude with a sharp eye for detail.
