Job summary

HRGO is recruiting for a hands-on CNC Milling Section Supervisor in Chatteris, England. Lead a machining cell, work with the shop Manager and senior programmers, oversee shift performance, and support apprentices while remaining capable of operating machines when needed.

You will develop apprentices, manage production priorities, and drive quality initiatives within a fast-expanding precision engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on CNC milling experience including setting and machining basics.
• Experience supervising or leading a team in a manufacturing environment.
• Willingness and ability to train apprentices and trainees.

Responsibilities

• Build working knowledge of all CNC section machines and best practice.
• Provide day-to-day leadership to the CNC milling section and manage production priorities.
• Support in-house training for part setting and machining.
• Develop apprentices/trainees through training schedules and coaching.
• Support HAAS mills and other equipment, including prove-outs and running parts.
• Collaborate with programmers and CNC Manager to plan subcontract parts in-house.
• Manage staffing and holiday planning to maintain production coverage.
• Run machines to cover holidays or urgent customer demand.
• Contribute to quality initiatives with programming and leadership.
• Create/setup sheets, tooling lists and documentation as needed.
• Attend meetings to align on priorities.

CNC Milling Section Supervisor

Opportunity for a hands‑on CNC Milling Section Supervisor to lead a machining cell in this fast expanding precision engineering business. You’ll work closely with the machine shop Manager and senior programmers, oversee shift performance, and support the development of apprentices and trainees—while still being willing and able to step onto machines when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Build working knowledge of all CNC section machines, including different material machining methods, setups and best practice on runners/repeaters.
• Provide day‑to‑day leadership to the CNC milling section, ensuring production hours, output and priorities are achieved.
• Support and deliver in‑house training for part setting and machining.
• Develop apprentices/trainees: identify training needs, create schedules/programmes, and coach in best practice.
• Support machining on HAAS mills and other equipment: prove‑outs, running parts, and assisting with ongoing capability growth.
• Work with programmers/CNC Manager to identify subcontract parts that can be brought back in‑house (and future machine needs).
• Manage staffing/holiday planning across early/late shifts to maintain production coverage.
• Run machines as required to cover holidays, sickness and urgent customer demand.
• Help implement and improve inspection/quality initiatives in conjunction with programming and CNC leadership.
• Create/maintain setup sheets, tooling lists and supporting documentation when required.
• Attend meetings as required.

Skills & Experience

• Strong hands‑on CNC milling background (setting/machining; programming understanding beneficial).
• Experience machining metals and composites and/or willingness to learn (training provided).
• Experience supervising or leading a team (or ready to step up into a leadership role).
• Confident communicator with the ability to lead, coach and support peers/subordinates.
• Good working knowledge of quality/inspection expectations in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Organised, proactive, and able to balance production delivery with people development.
