Job summary

Pertemps Black Country Perms is hiring a skilled CNC Programmer / Setter to join a precision engineering team in the West Midlands. You will program, set and operate CNC milling machines and lathes, prove out new programs, and optimize cycles to hit tight tolerances.

The role offers £16.50–£20.00 per hour, overtime opportunities, and an early finish every Friday. Typical hours are Mon-Thu 7:00am–4:00pm and Fri 7:00am–12:00pm, with 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays and a company pension

Qualifications

• 3+ years CNC programming experience.
• Experience with CNC milling and/or turning.
• Ability to program, set, run and prove out jobs independently.
• Strong understanding of drawings, tolerances and machining processes.

Responsibilities

• Program, set and operate CNC milling machines and/or CNC lathes.
• Prove out new programs and adjust to meet required results.
• Optimize cycles, tooling and processes to improve productivity.
• Read and interpret drawings and tolerances.
• Machining of precision steel and duplex castings.

The Role – CNC Programmer / Setter

You’ll play an important role in manufacturing precision components, taking ownership of CNC programming, setting and machining operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines and/or CNC lathes
• Proving out new programmes and making adjustments to achieve the required results
• Optimising machining cycles, tooling and processes to improve productivity
• Working with FANUC, HURCO or similar CNC control systems
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and tolerances
• Machining precision steel and duplex casting components
• Carrying out in-process inspections and maintaining high-quality standards
• Troubleshooting machining issues and supporting continuous improvement
• Working closely with colleagues across production and engineering

What we’re looking for

We’re keen to hear from experienced CNC Programmer Setters who can work confidently and independently within a precision engineering environment.

Ideally, you’ll have:

• At least 3 years’ CNC programming experience
• Experience in CNC milling, CNC turning or both
• The ability to programme, set, run and prove out jobs independently
• A strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and machining processes
• Experience with FANUC, HURCO or similar controls (advantageous, but not essential)
• A practical, hands‑on approach to problem‑solving
• A strong commitment to quality, accuracy and safe working practices
