Job summary

The CompanyA is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to join its Portsmouth-based team. You will create, optimise and review CNC programmes to manufacture precision components, collaborating with production and engineering to ensure quality and process efficiency.

Applicants should have strong experience with CNC controls, reading engineering drawings and CAD data, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement in a busy manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Experience programming CNC machinery in a precision engineering environment.
• Experience with Fanuc, Heidenhain, Mazatrol or similar controls.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and CAD data.
• Experience working with tight tolerances and complex components.

Responsibilities

• Create and edit CNC programmes for various machining centres.
• Support introduction of new products from design through to manufacture.
• Select tooling, speeds and feeds to maximise efficiency.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing and machining issues.
• Support machine set-up activities as required.
• Drive continuous improvement to reduce cycle times and improve quality.
• Ensure all work complies with quality and health & safety standards.

The Role

As a CNC Programmer, you will be responsible for creating, developing and optimising CNC programmes to support the manufacture of precision-engineered components. Working closely with the production and engineering teams, you will ensure programmes are efficient, accurate and capable of meeting customer quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Creating and editing CNC programmes for a variety of machining centres
• Supporting the introduction of new products from design through to manufacture
• Selecting tooling, speeds and feeds to maximise machining efficiency
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Troubleshooting manufacturing and machining issues
• Supporting machine set-up activities where required
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cycle times and improve quality
• Ensuring all work is carried out in line with quality and health & safety standards

About You

The successful CNC Programmer will ideally have:

• Previous experience programming CNC machinery within a precision engineering environment
• Experience with Fanuc, Heidenhain, Mazatrol or similar controls
• Strong understanding of machining processes and cutting tools
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD data
• Experience of working with tight tolerances and complex components
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• A proactive approach and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
