CNC Miller / Setter Operator - FANUC | £33k-£36k

Location: Nailsea, Bristol

Salary: £33,000 - £36,000 per annum, dependent on experience

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Monday-Thursday 7:30am-4:45pm | Friday 7:30am-12:30pm

The Role

Our client is an established manufacturing business based in Nailsea and is looking to recruit an experienced CNC Miller / Setter Operator to join their manufacturing team.

This is a hands‑on role involving the setting and operation of CNC milling machinery, producing high‑quality precision components to engineering drawings and specifications.

Experience with FANUC controls is required. CNC programming and experience with Fusion 360 or similar CAM software would be advantageous, but programming is not essential for the right candidate.

Candidates with strong CNC setting and operating experience who are interested in developing their programming skills are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and operate CNC milling machines using FANUC controls
• Complete machine setups for production runs
• Install tooling, fixtures and work‑holding equipment
• Set tool and work offsets accurately
• Load, prove and verify CNC programs
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models
• Produce components to specified dimensions and tolerances
• Carry out first‑off and in‑process inspections
• Make necessary offset adjustments during production
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling and setup issues
• Maintain production and inspection documentation
• Work to production schedules and minimise delays
• Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment
• Follow company health and safety, quality and 5S procedures

Programming & CAM Experience

CNC programming experience is preferred but is not essential.

Experience with Fusion 360 or similar CAM software would be an advantage. Programming responsibilities may include creating or modifying CNC programs, generating CAM toolpaths, selecting tooling and machining strategies, and making adjustments to improve cycle times, tool life and surface finish.

Candidates who are primarily experienced in setting and operating CNC milling machines, but have some programming experience or an interest in developing their programming skills, are encouraged to apply.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have experience as a CNC Miller, CNC Machinist, CNC Setter Operator or CNC Milling Setter/Operator.

You should have:

• Proven experience setting and operating CNC milling machinery
• Experience with FANUC controls
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience setting tooling, work offsets and fixtures
• Good knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, speeds and feeds
• Experience using precision measuring equipment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Good problem‑solving skills
• Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines

Programming experience and knowledge of Fusion 360 or similar CAM software would be advantageous.

Qualifications

A Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, CNC Machining or a related discipline would be advantageous.

Relevant qualifications may include NVQ Level 3 Engineering Manufacture / CNC Machining, City & Guilds Level 3, BTEC Level 3 Engineering or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering / CNC Machining.

Strong relevant practical experience will be considered in place of formal qualifications.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

• CNC programming
• Fusion 360 or similar CAM software
• 4- or 5-axis CNC machining
• HNC / HND in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
• Engineering apprenticeship
• ISO 9001, AS9100 or similar quality systems
• Aerospace, automotive, defence, medical or precision engineering

• Monday - Thursday: 7:30am - 4:45pm
• Friday: 7:30am - 12:30pm

Salary

£33,000 - £36,000 per annum, dependent on experience and technical capability.

The Working Environment

This is an on‑site manufacturing role based at our client’s facility in Nailsea.

The role involves working around CNC machinery, cutting tools, coolant and other manufacturing equipment. The successful candidate will be required to stand for extended periods and may occasionally lift items of up to 10kg.

Appropriate PPE must be worn in designated areas.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity for an experienced CNC Miller / Setter Operator to join an established manufacturing business in a varied and hands‑on role.

The client is particularly interested in candidates with strong FANUC experience who can confidently set and operate CNC milling machinery.

Programming and Fusion 360 experience would be an advantage, but candidates with strong setting and operating experience will also be considered.
