Job summary

Workforce Recruitment and Training in Bury is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to program, set and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines using Heidenhain controls. You will machine one-off bespoke components and large fabrications, read engineering drawings, and ensure high-quality components with tight tolerances.

The role requires strong inspection skills and a collaborative, proactive approach. We offer a 4-day working week, an on-site canteen, and overtime paid at 1.5x the hourly rate.

Qualifications

• Proven experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines with Heidenhain controls.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience machining one-off bespoke components and large fabrications is highly desirable.
• Experience using standard inspection equipment such as verniers, micrometers and gauges.
• Strong commitment to quality and meticulous attention to detail.
• Good organisational and time management skills.
• Self-motivated and reliable with an engineering background.

Responsibilities

• Programme, set and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines using Heidenhain controls.
• Machine one-off components and large fabrications up to 4–5 metres.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings to tight tolerances.
• Produce high-quality precision components and inspect using standard equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Collaborate within the engineering team and support production needs, including overtime.

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Bury

Salary:Up to £21.00 per hour DOE (depending on experience and skill level)

Working Hours

• 4-Day Working Week
• Monday to Thursday: 6:00am – 3:30pm
• Paid for 39 hours per week.
• Employees can either take their paid 15-minute tea break each day or work through it.
• Friday overtime available until 12:00pm, paid at 1.5x the hourly rate.
• Additional overtime is available and paid at 1.5x.

Key Responsibilities

• Programme, set and operate 3-axis CNC milling machines using Heidenhain controls.
• Machine one-off bespoke components, including large fabricated and framework parts up to 4–5 metres in length.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Produce high-quality precision components to fine tolerances.
• Inspect finished components using standard measuring equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Work independently and collaboratively within the engineering team.
• Support production requirements, including overtime when required.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines using Heidenhain controls.
• The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience machining one-off bespoke components and large fabrications is highly desirable.
• Experience using standard inspection equipment such as verniers, micrometers and gauges.
• A strong focus on quality and attention to detail.
• Good organisational and time management skills.
• A reliable, professional and self-motivated attitude.
• An engineering apprenticeship is desirable, although relevant experience is the overriding factor.
• Excellent rates of pay – up to £21.00 per hour for highly skilled candidates.
• 4-day working week (Monday to Thursday).
• Overtime paid at 1.5x the hourly rate.
