Job summary

THOMAS Professional is recruiting an experienced CNC Miller - Programmer/Setter/Operator to join an established precision engineering manufacturer based in Bristol. The role involves programming, setting and operating 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC milling machines, using Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls, and producing complex components to tight tolerances.

You will independently programme, set and operate machines, read engineering drawings, select tooling and optimize cycles, while supporting quality

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a CNC Miller Programmer/Setter/Operator.
• Strong CNC milling and programming experience.
• Experience with 3, 4 and/or 5-axis CNC machining.
• Good working knowledge of Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls.
• Independently programme, set and operate CNC milling machines.
• Confidence reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Strong understanding of tooling, workholding, offsets, speeds and feeds.
• Experience producing complex components to tight tolerances.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers and plug gauges.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Programming, setting and operating 3, 4 and 5-axis CNC milling machines.
• Working with Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls.
• Creating, editing and optimising CNC programmes.
• Producing complex precision components from drawings and specifications.
• Setting tools, fixtures and work offsets.
• Setting work offsets using probes and manual methods.
• Selecting cutting tools, tool holders and workholding.
• Optimising speeds, feeds and machining processes.
• Troubleshooting programme, tooling and machining issues.
• Monitoring machining operations and making adjustments as required.
• Carrying out in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment.
• Ensuring components are produced accurately and to required tolerances.
• Supporting improvements to quality, cycle times and production efficiency.
• Completing relevant production and setup documentation.
