Job summary

Manpower is seeking a CNC Miller - Setter-Operator for a 6-month on-site role in Bristol. You will set and operate 3/4/5 axis CNC milling machines, read drawings and ensure parts meet tight tolerances. You may work across multiple sites in Bristol and may have to cover alternate shifts.

The role requires setting up tools, offsets and ensuring on-time delivery while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience using CNC; familiar with 3/4/5 axis milling.
  • Knowledge of inspection tools: micrometers, verniers, plug gauges.
  • Reading and applying engineering drawings accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Setting and operating 3/4/5 axis CNC milling machines using Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls.
  • Producing high complexity components from a range of materials.
  • Adhering to quality standards.
  • Involvement at SQDCP meetings in assigned area.
  • Ensuring part production meets set/run times and quality requirements.
  • Communicating Not Right First Time (NRFT) within assigned areas.
  • Assisting the Manufacturing Group Leader to improve 5S in the team area.
  • Using correct materials, route cards and drawings to produce components.
  • Setting up tools and offsets for own operation and assisting others as needed.
  • Ensuring delivery schedule adherence of parts to route card dates.
  • Flexibility to work at other Bristol site if required.
  • May work alternate shifts/hours and perform other duties.

CNC Miller - Setter-Operator Reporting To: MGL/ Production Manager Pay: Negotiable Job Location: Bristol (on site) Term: 6 months

Job Purpose Our client manufactures high-precision components for demanding industries, and have multiple opportunities across their manufacturing sites. The CNC Miller - Setter-Operator will set, operate CNC Milling machines tools to produce component parts to drawing and process requirements. They will assist in the manufacturing of parts through the production process, ensuring planned times for setting and manufacturing are met or improved; and high quality parts produced within required performance, cost and delivery targets.

Key Responsibilities Accountabilities
  • Setting and operating 3/4/5 axis CNC milling machines using Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls and.
  • Producing high complexity components from a range of materials
  • Adhering to quality standards
  • Involvement and attendance at SQDCP meetings in assigned area/s
  • Ensuring performance of part production to planned set and run times and Quality requirements
  • Communicating Not Right first time (NRFT) within assigned areas
  • Assisting the Manufacturing Group Leader in improving the 5S organisation of the team area
  • Responsible for ensuring correct materials, Route Cards, drawing are used to produce components
  • Setting up tools, offsets etc ready for your own operation to commence and assist Operators where appropriate
  • Ensuring Delivery Schedule Adherence of parts to system / route card dates
  • Flexibility to work at our other Group site in Bristol if required
  • You may be required to work alternative shifts / hours
  • You may be required to perform any other reasonable duties/specific projects from time to time and as directed by management.
Machine Setup:
  • Experience in setting up CNC machines, including installing workpieces, fixtures, cutting tools.
  • Ability to set Work offsets with probes and manually by wobble bar/DTI clock.
  • Ability to select and install appropriate cutting tools, tool holders, and fixtures for the machining process.
CNC Machining Skills:
  • CNC Setter/Operators must have a keen eye for detail and the ability to monitor the machining process closely, making adjustments to tooling or machine settings as necessary to maintain precision and quality.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in operating CNC machines, specifically Heidenhain and/or Fanuc Controls Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of CNC programming languages.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Adherence to safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment - Zero Tolerance to safety.
  • Knowledge of machine guarding, lockout/tagout procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Compliance with company policies, quality standards, and relevant industry regulations.
  • Lead by example by living the company mission and values, demonstrating a proactive, ethical and can-do approach.
Communication and Collaboration:
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Ability to document and maintain accurate production records, including setup sheets, tool lists & kits Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, machining techniques, and process improvements.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience using CNC
  • Good working knowledge of component dimensions using various inspection equipment - including but not limited to Micrometers, Verniers and Plug Gauges.
  • Good working knowledge of manufacturing techniques and Engineering drawings is essential.
  • Ability to produce components to drawing tolerance and specifications, efficiently and accurately as required by internal and external customer specifications.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Desirable Aerospace manufacturing.
  • OEE / FourJaw systems.
  • Use of inspection machines - CMM / Opticline machines
