Job summary

Gregory-Martin International is seeking a CNC Miller Setter Operator near Southend-on-Sea, Essex. The role requires setting and running 3- and 4-axis mills, with programming ability on HAAS/Bridgeport, plus knowledge of Heidenhain and Fanuc controls.

You will work on aerospace-grade parts using aluminium, stainless steel and Inconel. The position focuses on first- and second-op machining, inspection, and ensuring on-time deliveries in a high-tolerance environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Set and run 1st operations CNC Mills with 3- or 4-axis programming.
• Set and run CNC machines including fixed/ sliding head lathes and bar feeders.
• Support 2nd operations safely (thread rollers, grinding, deburrers).
• Work with aluminium, stainless steel and Inconel materials.
• Coordinate programming and setting with other setters.
• Carry out first-off and job run inspection of parts.
• Carry out buddy checks and job run inspections.
• Reduce scrap and rework; report efficiencies to Production Manager.
• Maintain machine efficiency to meet on-time deliveries and KPIs.
• Manufacture quality parts per standards and procedures.

CNC Miller Setter Operator

Location - Near Southend-on-Sea, Essex

Salary: up to £36,000, Working hours - Monday to Thursday - 37-hour week, plus many benefits including Pension, Health Cash Plan, Life Assurance

Our client is looking to grow their workforce and has an excellent opportunity for a CNC Engineer with experience in milling. They require a CNC Engineer Miller Setter and Operator with the ability to amend and ideally write programmes on machine. Set and operate CNC Mills and Fanuc and Heidenheim Control. The candidate must be experienced in aerospace engineering sector, working with high tolerance parts. You will be required to program, set and run a variety of 1st operation machine tools, CNC machines inclusive of mills, additional knowledge of fixed and/or sliding heads desirable.

Our client is predominately a turning company and therefore the position on the Mills would be varied and would not be a standard milling company role. You would work on varied works, inclusive of bolts, tufnol sheets cutting.

• Strong understanding of aerospace standards.

PURPOSE OF ROLE re CNC Engineer – Miller Setter and Operator:

• Set and Run 1st Operations CNC Mills, with programming abilities using 3 and 4 axis' (Including Bridgeport Vertical Mill with Heidenheim Controls and Haas Mill with Fanuc controls)
• Able to set and Run CNC machines including fixed head, sliding head, Lathes and Bar feeders (including Dooson, Hardinge, Mori and Star)
• Support as required, with set and run 2nd Operations machinery safely - thread rollers, grinding, part markers, drill banks, depitching presses, torque testers and deburrers (manual/rotary etc).
• Work confidently with material from Aluminium, stainless steels and Inconel.
• Coordination of all programming and setting activities, coordinating with other existing setters.
• Carry out first-off and job run inspection of 2nd Op Machine parts
• Carry out first-off buddy checks and job run inspection of 1st and 2nd Operations machine parts.
• Reduce scrap/rework reporting back efficiencies to the Production Manager.
• Maintain machine efficiency to ensure we comply with On Time Deliveries, Arrears, Parts Per Hour (PPH) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Manufacture good quality products in line with agreed standards and quality procedures.
